Michael Thomas: Newsletter Editor
has been Associate Professor in English Communication at Nagoya University of Commerce and Business in Japan since 2002. He's a graduate of the University of Manchester's Masters in Educational Technology and English Language Teaching. In addition he has an MBA in Educational Management from the University of Leicester and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Prior to Japan, he taught English for Specific Purposes at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. For three years he was part of one of the first truly global online language schools, the Global English Corporation based in San Francisco, USA, and taught corporate customers using a variety of text and video conferencing software.
He is the author of The Reception of Derrida: Translation and Transformation (Palgrave Macmillan), and is working on a book about language education and mobile learning, which draws on aspects of postmodern pedagogy.
He is on the editorial board of the Asian Journal of English as a Foreign Language, the Journal of ESP, and an advisor for the Asian Education Index (Business English). In addition he's a member of EuroCALL, PacCALL and JALTCALL, as well as the MLA.
